Call To Action Roadshows   News

In October SLWT organised 3 roadshows in the UK, London – 20th October, Manchester -23rd October and Birmingham 28th October. Speaking and participating at these were UK Med, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Save the Children, Kings Sierra Leone Partnership, Public Health England and GOAL.

The roadshow was to bring closer to the general public the agencies recruiting health care workers and non-health care workers – clinicians as well as non-clinicians. It was also to enable interested volunteers to put their questions and concerns directly to those who would be responsible for them before going out, i.e. the training they will receive; whilst out on mission – the conditions, facilities and environment they would be working and on return, what help and support would be available to them.

Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, chair SLWT, opened all three events by first thanking the UK Government for its support especially in the building of Ebola Treatment Centres in Sierra Leone and with a plea for more to consider helping Sierra Leone at this critical stage. “We need people, and especially health care workers to manage these facilities and make sure that they are effective.” The event attracted worldwide media coverage, which allowed us to reach more volunteers.:
