SLWT formerly Sierra Leone War Trust for Children, was formed in April 1999, by seven Sierra Leoneans, living and working in the UK. This was a direct response to the atrocities committed against children in Sierra Leone, during the country's ten year civil war.
The Trustees work to ensure that the efforts of the trust has a direct, effective and tangible impact on the lives of its beneficiaries. SLWT works through local credible and established partners who already have the logistics and administrative machinery in place, thereby reducing the administrative overheads and ensuring that the funds raised are channelled directly to specific projects. All projects are community led and SLWT provides financial and technical support.
Since 1999 SLWT has raised over a million dollars (USD 1,000,000) and has contributed to the lives of over 5000 children and youths. Please read more about our work.
